Geneva International Motor Show 2001

Geneva, Geneva, Switzerland
Dates
1st to 10th of March 2001
About the Event
Each year around this time in Geneva--the city of international organizations, spies, clocks and chocolate--tiny vehicles appear in the windows of the candy shops to salute the Geneva International Motor Show, the industry's most prestigious public event.
When Aston Martin executives unveiled their new 460-horsepower, V-12 Vanquish at the Geneva International Motor Show, they no doubt did so confident its specifications would indeed vanquish all other new models (they obviously didn't count on a 1,001-horsepower Bugatti showing up later that same day).
Dr. Ferdinand Piech, chief executive of Volkswagen --which acquired Bugatti in 1998-- announced that his company would produce an extraordinary car, the Bugatti EB 16-4 Veyron. The show car is named for Pierre Veyron, the last great Bugatti race driver, whose model 51 was also on display. The Veyron has become an almost familiar fixture at car shows, having been on display in Detroit, Paris and even Geneva itself in the last two years.
