Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este 2001

Cernobbio, Lombardy, Italy
About the Event
Forty-seven cars from the most famous European and UnitedStates collections paraded in front of the jury chaired by Carlo FeliceBianchi Anderloni and composed of Paul Frère, Albrecht Graf Goertz, Anthony Hussey, Shotaro Kobayashi, Patrick le Quément, Charles Lord March and Lorenzo Ramaciotti.
Once again the great tradition of Villa d'Este has exerted all its appeal to the numerous insiders gathered in Cernobbio. This time, moreover, the cars paraded in Como in Piazza Cavour on the morning of Saturday 21 April while in the afternoon they were admired at Villa Erba by a large audience of paying spectators.
The overall winner of the Gran Premio Referendum Coppa d'Oro di Villa d'Este was what seemed to many to be the most spectacular and seductive car among those participating, the 1951 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS 'Villa d'Este' Cabriolet (no. 16). The BMW Trophy, as the first prize of the jury, went to the 1961 Aston Martin DB4 Jet Bertone (no. 66) presented by Hans-Peter Weidmann (CH), while the BMW Italia Trophy awarded by popular referendum by the public at Villa Erba went to the 1951 Ferrari 340 America (no. 24) presented by Louis Frey (CH). One of the two BMWs in the competition, the 1958 BMW 507 (no. 28) presented by Heiko Seekamp (D), obtained the prestigious 'Raggiera di Lucia' award given by the Como Tourist Boardto the most interesting car with convertible bodywork.
