Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este 1935

Cernobbio, Lombardy, Italy
About the Event
The 1935 Concorso di Villa d’Este saw a new wave of royal patronage, as Prince Aimone di Savoia-Aosta, then President of the Italian Royal Automobile Club, authorised the introduction of a series of prizes bearing his Duke of Spoleto title. However, the event’s most prestigious honour remained the Coppa Principessa di Piemonte, awarded annually as an ongoing challenge. That year, a Fiat 1500 saloon took top honours in its class, while a rather conservative Jury overlooked some forward-thinking aerodynamic saloons from Pininfarina and Castagna.
A notable shift occurred in 1935, with the number of entries dropping to 80 a decline from previous years, when participation had consistently exceeded 100. Whether this reflected waning interest or external difficulties remains unclear, but no event was held in 1936.
