Goodwood Festival of Speed 2016
Chichester, England, United Kingdom
About the Event
The 2016 edition of the Festival of Speed followed the theme of 'Full Throttle The Endless Pursuit of Power’ celebrating the most powerful competition cars (and bikes) from history. Other celebrations at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed included the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500, 50 years since the inaugural Can-Am Series as well as a tribute to James Hunt celebrating the 40th anniversary of his 1976 Formula 1 World Championship victory. Also in 2016 the Goodwood Moving Motor Show was held for the seventh year, on the first day (Thursday) of the event.
The central feature of the event was built to celebrate BMW and their success throughout all forms of motorsport. BMW held the UK premiere of the BMW 2002 Hommage and the BMW i Vision Future concept. Cars on the statue included the BMW 328 Mille Miglia Roadster, the Brabham-BMW BT52, and the Le Mans-winning BMW V12 LMP. Lord March, now known as the Duke of Richmond, opened the event by driving a BMW 507 up the hill. Famous drivers such as Riccardo Patrese, Yannick Dalmas, Johnny Cecotto, Roberto Ravaglia and Alex Zanardi formed part of BMW's lineup of drivers for the event.
