Unknown works history before being shipped to New York for the 1936 Vanderbilt Cup where it was a spare car. Sold to Bill White after the race and prepared for a Indy 500 tilt in 1937 by Rex Mays. Rebuilt for Indy ‘38 by Fred Offenhauser and Ed Winfield to 3 litre form with single seat coachwork. Raced by Stapp, McQuinn, Wilburn and Marshall through 1947, finishing in the top 10 three times. Believed to also be the car raced by Duke Nalon at minor events in ‘41. William White bought the now tired engineless car and displayed it at his Los Angles pub. A brief series of owners followed in the 1960s until Luigi Fusi found it and bought it for the Museo Alfa Romeo in Italy. Fusi restored the car with 8C2900 parts, new coachwork to the original form and a 12C36 engine.
