About the Event

The 2022 Phillip Island Classic Festival of Motorsport was held from March 11 to 13 at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Victoria, Australia. Organised by the Victorian Historic Racing Register (VHRR), the event marked a strong return after COVID-related disruptions, attracting over 400 entries and enthusiastic crowds. Known as Australia’s premier historic motorsport festival, the 2022 edition featured a wide range of categories including historic touring cars, open wheelers, and sports cars. While international entries were absent due to global shipping and logistics issues, local competition was fierce.

The Historic Touring Car Association of Victoria (HTCAV) fielded a particularly strong presence, with 75 entrants across the Under 2 Litre and Over 2 Litre grids. In the Under 2 Litre class, Alfa Romeos driven by Adriano Dimauro and Spencer Rice were consistently at the front, with one race ending in a dramatic finish where Dimauro edged out Rice by just 0.03 seconds. In the Over 2 Litre division, drivers like Aldo De Paoli in a Chevrolet Camaro and Michael Miceli in a Ford Mustang battled for supremacy, with races often decided by fractions of a second. A standout feature of the weekend was a commemorative race for the Peter Brock Trophy, honouring the 50th anniversary of Brock’s Bathurst win.
