Information

Winner of 1982 Detroit Grand Prix
In late 1990s, the Brunei Royal Family wanted to buy all McLaren F1 cars built under Ron Dennis' management. But at that time there wasn't any MP4/1 chassis in good condition available, the original chassis are either destroyed, modified or sold. So McLaren built two fully functional MP4/1 replicas for the Bruneians. One of these bears chassis number of MP4/1-5, but has a suffix (M9) to distinguish from the original car. The replica chassis 5 still exists in modern days after being sold by the Royal family, but it's not the original chassis.
