Information
At 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix, after the start, Romain Grosjean collided with Daniil Kvyat, the touch between the wheels let Grosjean lose control, and hit the wall head-on at 192 km/h. The hit was so fierce that, the car was torn into two pieces immediately. The rear part fell off almost intact while the monocoque pinned into the guard rail. Then the oil tank leaked and exploded into a fire ball. This accident was similar to Helmut Koinigg's fatal crash at 1974 US GP, but Grosjean's impact was way too bigger. The halo played a vital role in Grosjean's survival, it split the guard rail and protected Grosjean's head, as well gave him enough space to escape. Without the halo, this would 100% be a fatal accident. Also the fire proof gears, stiffness of modern monocoque, braveness of marshals and doctors, Grosjean's being conscious and the will to survive are all important. Grosjean only suffered from minor burns on hands and ankles, caused by flames slipped into his gloves and shoes. But these injuries were already a super lucky result of such a horrifying accident.
Currently the car is displayed at F1 Exhibition around the world in its condition right after the accident.
