Information
Alfa Romeo Scarabeo Barchetta. The first working Scarabeo chassis, built roughly around the time the OSI Scarabeo was built as well (the one to be displayed in Paris in 1966). It's powered by a Giulia GTA engine and only has the front half of the bodywork done with similar looks to the second Scarabeo Berlinetta that would come later as a more complete model. As opposed to the barchetta, this car das its driver sitting much closer to the middle and it's mid-engined, pointing to more of a motorsport usage as opposed to road usage but this was never confirmed. There is also a theory that it served as an initial look for the upcoming Tipo 33 race car and its derivates but the purpose of the prototype is still unclear. After some testing it ended up forgotten for decades at the premises of Alfa Romeo but it has been moved since in the storage area of the museum where it still resides today and it would ideally be restored sympathetically but no concrete plans exist for that yet.
