During a test at Hockenheim 9 days before 1980 German Grand Prix, Patrick Depailler had a suspension failure at Ostkurve, a fast and long corner of Hockenheimring. The car lost control at full speed, hit the barrier heavily and was torn into pieces. Patrick Depailler died from severe head injury.
