RM Sotheby’s held an exceptional auction on June 9, 2023, at Le Mans, in partnership with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO), as part of the Centenary celebrations of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Set under a marquee in the heart of the circuit, this extraordinary sale featured 24 lots, including 21 running race cars, all closely tied to the history of the legendary endurance race.
Notable Results
- 1955 Ferrari 121 LM Spider: This rare model, bodied by Scaglietti and raced in both the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Mille Miglia in 1955, was sold for €5,742,500, making it the highest-priced lot of the sale.
- 1969 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Competizione: Prepared by the North American Racing Team (NART) and finishing 5th at Le Mans in 1971, this car was offered at €5,200,000 but did not sell.
- 2007 Aston Martin DBR9 GT1: This chassis, which finished 22nd overall and 3rd in class at the 2010 Le Mans, was sold for €2,255,000.
- 1984 Lancia LC2: This prototype achieved pole position and the fastest lap during the 1984 Le Mans. It was also sold for €2,255,000.
- 1965 Le Mans Start Flag: This historic flag triggered a bidding war and was sold for €330,000, far exceeding its initial estimate of €30,000 to €35,000.
