The BMW M3 (E30) powered by an evolution engine was developed to homologate changes to the engine for the racing series. Since these are solely technical changes, the visual appearance of the version equipped with the evolution engine is virtually indistinguishable from the standard series of the BMW M3 (E30). However, the vehicle can be identified by an 'E' stamped on the cylinder head, by its two-part manifold and by a white dot on the throttle valve washer. The car supplied as standard had no additional power compared to the series version (i.e. 200 hp) but the output could be increased to up to 220 hp with a performance enhancement kit.
