unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1983, as a bold but ready to be put into practice vision for Alfa Romeo’s GT line up. Designer Giuseppe Mittino created a stylish 2+2 coupé that embodied Zagato’s signature design philosophy: the iconic double-bubble roof, compact proportions, and lines that perfectly balanced sportiness with an elegant overall silhouette.
Built upon the GTV6 platform, the Zeta 6 was powered by 2.5L Busso V6 in its 158 HP version, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. Looking at it up close, even through today’s lenses, the Zeta 6 reveals all the details of the well thought Italian craftsmanship: innovative at the time colour coded integrated bumpers, the bonnet opening in two parts, or the catchy rotating door handles in the classic telephone dial Alfa style.
Both the public’s and the motoring press’ response was positive - even if the first sketches of the project were leaked in 1979, with production and development by Zagato supported by Alfa having taken place between 1980 and 1982, at its premiere in 1983 the Zeta 6 was instantly recognised as something truly special. It was by all criteria a refined sports car that matched both mechanically and stylistically the essence of what made Alfa Romeo and Zagato special.
Unfortunately, even if debated internally for production, the project never took off - as priority was given at the time to the Nissan collaboration that resulted in the Arna. Two aluminium bodied cars were fully completed.
