Information
The Rolls-Royce Phantom II All weather Cabriolet Star of India (chassis 188PY) is one of the most iconic and historically significant Rolls-Royces ever built. Commissioned in 1934 by the Maharaja of Rajkot, and crafted by Thrupp & Maberly, it was painted in a rare deep saffron-gold shade symbolizing purity and Indian heritage. The car featured advanced technology for its time, including headlights that turned with the steering, a lavish silk and mahogany interior, and a 24-carat gold-plated Spirit of Ecstasy emblem. Used in royal ceremonies and processions, it became a symbol of India’s regal grandeur and the close ties between Rolls-Royce and Indian royalty. After decades in India, the car was sold in 1968 and moved to Europe later rediscovered and auctioned in 2010, when the Rajkot royal family repurchased it. Today, the Star of India stands as one of the most valuable and beautifully preserved vintage Rolls-Royces in the world
