Information

On the first lap of the 1969 24 Heures du Le Mans, John Woolfe crashed into the barriers, being killed instantly as his seatbelt wasn't well adjusted. This accident caused the ban of the traditional Le Mans Start.

In the late 1980s, Willi Kauhsen purchased a pair of accident damaged 956s and a large quantity of 917 spares direct from Porsche including some parts of 917-005. He also acquired 005’s VIN plate from Woolfe’s estate and assembled an exact reproduction of the car.
This reproduction participated in Le Mans Classic 2018 and Dix Mille Tours 2019, and sold later by Canepa Motorsport in the USA. That car is now in Horacio Pagani's Private Collection since 2025.
