Original chassis 917-014 raced by JW Automotive during the 1970 season.
In 1971 the original car was retired from competition and replaced by new chassis 917-014 - built on chassis 917-029, using the identity of 014 for carnet reasons (it has remained the property of the Porsche Museum ever since).
The original 014 chassis was re-boied to K configuration in December 1969 and entered by JW Aautomotive in early 1970. In October 1970, JW Automotive renumbered it by swapping the chassis number 029 with 014. These two cars still have each other's chassis plate today.
After returning to Porsche in October 1970, the car passed through the hands of Freisinger in 1974, Louis Meznarie in 1975, and then Auto Bourse (C. Poirot) before being acquired by E.C. Poirot in 1979. The chassis, now identified as 014, was restored in 2022 by Freisinger Motorsport and was in a private collection in Hong Kong. In racing terms, the chassis raced in the 1970 season with Jo Siffert and Brian Redman, finishing second in the 24 Hours of Daytona, winning the 1000 km of Spa, and second in the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen. It also competed in Watkins Glen Can-Am events.
In 2025, chassis 014 (still carrying the number 029) took part in the full Classic Endurance Racing 1 season of the Peter Auto Championship — Esprit de Montjuïc, Spa Classic, Grand Prix de l’Age d’Or, Le Mans Classic, Imola Classic, Les Dix Mille Tours, and Estoril Classics — running with three different engines over the course of the year, following two engine‑related incidents that required replacements.
