Information
Winner of the 1991 Le Mans 24 Hours. Managed to run under the minimum weight in the C2 class due to Jacky Ickx lobbying for Mazda to be let to race as-is. Won a race of attrition at Le Mans despite being seconds slower per lap compared to the other factory entries in C1 and C2 classes. It was NEVER banned for 'being too fast' as the new 3.5L formula engine rules were set in stone before the 787B would turn a wheel but got a concession from FISA to run the rotary engine in the C2 class alongside other Group C cars not adhering to the rules. Later models would switch to 3.5L engines to comply with the rules. The 787B was a non-compliant car to previously set rules.
