In March 2018, the previous owner, an Australian storing the car in the UK, shipped the vehicle to Australia for the first-ever Maserati Global Gathering. After docking in Melbourne, the vehicle was impounded and randomly selected to be inspected for asbestos, along with 7 other Maserati vehicles being shipping to the event. This process can cost the owner up to $30,000 and includes drilling core components including the firewall to test for presence of the substance. The ABF did not conduct asbestos testing on any of the vehicles, despite six of them being identified as potentially containing asbestos.
