Information
As part of their agreement with Ford and Cosworth, Lotus needed to supply the 'Blue Oval' with an example of the V8-engined Lotus for promotional purposes. With all existing cars still needed on the race track, Lotus instead assembled a brand new 49B. As a result this example was never raced in period. After chassis R12 had served its purpose, Ford sold the car to Tom Wheatcroft, who displayed it for many years in his fantastic Donington Grand Prix Collection museum.
