Winner of 1982 San Marino Grand Prix.
After the FISA/FOCA conflict reached its highest tension moment when Piquet and Rosberg were DSQ from Brazil 1982, FISA teams boycotted the San Marino Grand Prix 1982. On that race only 14 cars stated the race. Renault RE30 chassis #RE37, driven by Rene Arnoux got the pole position. During the race Renault and Ferrari agreed to have some fight to bring spectacle to the race until the French cars retired due mechanical failures. Ferrari was the only one fighting for the win, so they said their drivers: 'Keep position'. From one side, Gilles Villeneuve understood keep their current positions (he was leading with Didier in 2nd) while Pironi understood the opposite. So they started a long fight until the end that was won by Pironi on last lap (60/60). Gilles was too angry that he promised he was never gonna talk Pironi again. The next race, the Belgian Grand Prix. On qualifying the Pironi-Villeneuve fight extended to quali, where Gilles, mad because Pironi beat his time, went to track wanting to beat it when he had his fatal crash.
This car was also the reason of the second death in 1982 season. At Canadian GP, Pironi started from pole, but the lights changed slower than usual. So Pironi stalled his car and waved to marshals to tell them the problem. At this very moment, the lights were changed and the race began. Other cars started while Pironi was stationary, some cars behind couldn't avoid the Ferrari. Most cars were just slightly damaged, but Riccardo Palleti's Osella hit Piorni heavily. Palleti was seriously injured and his car burst into flames and the rescue was hindered by the fire. When marshals and doctors rescued him out of the wreckage, Palleti was already without a pulse.
The Ferrari was destroyed later during a test at Paul Ricard.
