The featured R4A is the very first ERA sold to a customer. That customer was Pat 'Skidder' Fairfield, who had his 1.1-litre ERA prepared throughout the 1935 season by the factory. He scored quite a few victories, even against much larger-engined competition. In 1936, a larger, 1.5 engine was fitted, and the successes continued. At the end of the decade, the ERA reached its age and was retired
