1987 Chevrolet Sprint Convertible Prototype
This one-off 1987 Chevrolet Sprint Convertible was engineered by General Motors’ Specialty Vehicles Group as a unique prototype for Jon A. Moss, Senior Engineer at GM from 1963 to 2004. Under Moss’s leadership, the division became known for reviving GM’s performance legacy — developing icons such as the 1994 1996 Impala SS, the 1999 Tahoe Police Package, and contributing to the evolution of the C5 Corvette.
Converted from a standard Sprint hatchback into a factory-engineered racing convertible, this car represents GM’s creative experimentation of the era — blending compact design with performance-oriented engineering. As one of many innovative prototypes built under Moss’s direction, this Sprint stands as a rare artifact from GM’s most imaginative period of specialty vehicle development.
