Information
General Motors was famous for its more radical concept of dream cars exhibited at Motoramas but a few other, more conventional show cars were created annually by the Styling Department for major expositions and important fairs. In 1964, General Motors Styling decided to build a Corvette Prototype to be used in the upcoming auto shows. A fuel injected coupe from the assembly line was transferred to the Technical Center where the creation of the special Corvette began and where the car was given new identification, shop order 10361. The front grill was enlarged, the hood altered to reflect 1965-1967 styling and cut open to accomodate the raised fuel injection unit. The large side exhausts were unique to this car alone, but the dual sport sideview mirrors were later commonly used. Most of the components for the engine were chrome plated for show purposes and the interior of the car modified in many respects for the same reason. Many other features were incorporated to show the public what might be forthcoming on future models. After the completion, the car was painted with a cold base coat and 15 coats of Candy Apple Red laquer and was on it's way to the Detroit Auto Show and New York World's Fair to dazzle the public. In 1997 this car was included with the first group of Corvettes that were inducted into the Bloomington Gold Hall of Fame.
