Information
Type 57 Galibier Jean Bugatti et Costantini
Registered by Automobiles Ettore Bugatti at Préfecture du Bas-Rhin on 28th June 1932 as type 44 number 44250
This prototype at first had independent front suspension, a chain-driven camshaft, type 53 alloy wheels and still a Zenith carburetor.
After Ettore found out about the front suspension he forbade it and claimed a Bugatti always needed a solid front axle.
The prototype radiator was changed to a standard type radiator and the alloy wheels were changed to wire wheels.
The chain broke after 250.000 km in 1937, destroying the engine and the car was broken up. Only the gearbox, rear axle and steering house was reused
