Information
Type 40 modified with style of Type 37.
Type 40 engine that carries the number no169. This comes from chassis no. 40291, and not from 37313 as had been noted for a long time. According to Jansen, 40291 was built in December 1926, one of 23 other vehicles ordered as a rolling chassis by the Bugatti Agency on the avenue Montaigne in Paris, and delivered on 4 January 1927. The chassis of our example has been modified to resemble a Type 37, and the rear crossmember has been removed. Similarly, new supports have been welded onto the chassis to allow the engine to be moved further back. The numbers shown on the main elements of the car since its restoration are as follows: rear axle no490, gearbox no489, front axle no490, chassis no490.These elements come from another Type 40, no 40600.
