The Bugatti EB110 Supersport chassis SS16 was ordered by Michel Hommell,a French press CEO, who contacted the Bugatti factory to enter an EB110 in the new GT class at the 1994 Le Mans 24 hours. While the original idea was to modify an already existing EB110 SS by Synergie, given the scale of the work required, it was decided in early 1994 to build a dedicated car. Thus was launched the SS16 chassis, which was then sent to Synergie's preparation facility in France. The car will then be powered at Campogalliano, with an engine developed to race specifications by Bugatti.
During the race, the car will prove to be particularly fast. The EB110 LM went up the field one after the other until it reached a very surprising 6th place overall in the early morning. Overheating problems in the turbos, due to the regulatory flanges on the intake, will lead to repeated breakdowns. The car will fall back in the standings until all 4 turbos are replaced. The EB110 LM resumes its forward motion and moves up in the standings with 45 minutes to go until the end of the race. Overtaking a Dodge Viper, JC Bouillon went into a spin and damaged the car, then retired. The car was on display at the Loheac Museum during almost 20 years and the SS16 was sold to a private owner, who shows the car in many events.
