About this model

Based on the Horch 930 V and the patents of stream-lining pioneer Paul Jaray, Auto Union designed the Horch 930 S (S for streamline). The car was a sensation at the Berlin IAA in 1939. It was the first time that findings from wind tunnel trials regarding the aerodynamic properties were incorporated into a planned production vehicle. Thanks to the drag coefficient (Cw = 0.42), which was outstanding for the time, a test car with 92 hp achieved an impressive top speed of 187 km/h on the motorway near Dessau in 1939.

The bodywork was to be manufactured by Gläser in Dresden. The outbreak of war prevented the car from going into series production. Two prototypes were built in 1939. In 1946/47, six more were built as simplified versions with a modified front for the Soviet adminis-tration.
