Horch 855 Spezialroadster

In 1934, Günther Mickwausch, a designer at Auto Union since 1932, designed this elegant two-seater. In 1935, a prototype in black with a compressor engine

stood at the Capitol cinema in Berlin during the IAA. Another vehicle was not built until February 1938, this time in granite silver and coral red paint. Despite great admiration, the hoped-for sales failed to materialise. The majority of those interested tended to prefer the 853 A sports convertible: it had four seats, was 4 000 Reichsmarks cheaper and looked just as good.

The superstructures were manufactured in the in-house body shop or by Gläser in Dresden. Berlin specialists Erdmann & Rossi fitted bodies similar to the 855 onto Horch 853 chassis. It is not known exactly how many.
