The new type profile of the Horch cars was presented at the Berlin Motor Show 1933. The top end of the Auto Union product range was formed by the higher-value version with the eight-cylinder in-line engine, five litres displacement (type code 850) and a wheel base of 3,750 mm. The Horch 851 differed from the basic type by its double bumpers, the short, round and chromed headlamps, the vent- and sliding windows in the front and in the rear as well as the big wheel caps. They were also equipped more luxuriously (e.g. foot heater).
