The first of two offset Grand Prix cars built ahead of the 1939 season, it was driven to third at its Pau Grand Prix debut. Converted to sports car specification, it won the Grand Prix de Commenges in the hands of René le Begue. It was later driven at the Indy 500 and placed fourth in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. After the War, Zora Arkus-Duntov raced in the 1946 and 1947 Indy 500s. It was subsequently campaigned by Harry Schell in several Grand Prix in Europe. In the early 1950s, it was brought to South America by privateer racer 'Raph.' In 1984, it was retrieved from Brazil by Colin Crabbbe and has since joined a Swiss collection
