Sergio Perez got his first podium with this car at 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix. In the rains he had good pace to chase the race leader Alonso, even had a big chance to win the race. However, Sauber ordered him to be careful and maintain the position. Perez even went wide to the run-off and lost the opportunity to chase Alonso. Many believe this was an order by Sauber's engineer supplier Ferrari to secure Alonso's victory.
