AP01B, used for developing AP02 with upgraded suspension, gearbox and new engine. During private tests, the AP01B showed better performance than AP01, so Alain Prost decided to take this car to Japanese GP. Jarno Trulli got the chance to race it, but he wasn't happy with the car as he was outqualified by his teammate Olivier Panis in the original AP01. He wanted to switch back to AP01 in the race but the team refused. Later, Trulli crashed the AP01B during pre-race warm up session, as a result he could only start with AP01. Then the AP01B was never seen again.
