Information
Although bearing a Porsche derived chassis plate, the car’s true chassis is still debatable.
Porsche delivered the car to Holbert Racing without an engine or gearbox in July of 1986. The engine and gearbox were supplied to Holbert by Kevin Jeannette of Gunnar Racing. At this time, the car was known as 962-HR6.
However, since new tubs from Porsche were unobtainable at the time, the car acquired a chassis from John Thompson in order to race for Takefuji in Le Mans.
Due to its constant movement between borders and mix matched parts, the car is known in-house as 962-VSR 01 to streamline the carnet customs process.
Post race career, the car was converted into the first prototype of Schuppan 962 LM road cars where it obtained a new ‘VS’ chassis designation. Unfortunately, it was short lived as the car was lost in a fire.
