Information
This Porsche 917/10, built in 1972, was delivered new to Willi Kauhsen not as a complete car, but as a simple tubular chassis intended as a spare for his sister 917/10 entered in competition. After this initial life as a spare chassis, the entire package was sold by Andial in 1974 to Randolph Townsend in Reno, before passing in 1977 to Dan Hannah in Oregon.
In 1980, it joined the collection of Monte Shelton, and then in 1984, Peter Kaus's collection at the Rosso Bianco Museum, where it became a key artifact of the Can-Am program.
Offered for sale by Bonhams in 2006, it fetched $579,000, confirming its historical significance. Presented at the Rennsport Reunion in 2015, this car has belonged since 2014 to William Chip Connor, who ensures its preservation and visibility among the most significant prototypes in Porsche history.
