Information
In 1972, engineers Norbert Singer and Wolfgang Berger were tasked with modifying the 911 to make it more competitive, as the iconic 917 had been retired due to regulatory changes. For the changes to be adopted in FIA Group 4, intended for modified road cars, homologation of a more suitable model than the 911 S was required, with at least 500 units produced for the road market a true homologation special .
The main objective was to reduce weight, achieved with thinner body panels, a lighter interior, fiberglass bumpers and engine cover, and even a stickered front emblem. Engine capacity was increased to 2.7L, thanks to technology derived from the 917 cylinders, combined with a new aerodynamic package that introduced the iconic ducktail at the rear, crucial for the car's performance. The initial production run of 500 units was completely sold out in the first week after the car's launch in 1972, leading Porsche to increase production to 1,000 and then 1,500 units, making the car eligible for FIA Group 3 as well.
This particular example is one of the 500 originally planned, equipped with the Touring package and several unusual original accessories, such as air conditioning, sunroof, and electric windows. The car arrived new in Brazil, but after being acquired by Walter Salles, it was imported to France, where the filmmaker used it for years and even received a modification from the Almeras brothers, with an increase to 2.8L, a new exhaust system, and 930 brakes, before returning to Brazil. It came into the care of FBF in 2013.
