Information

Peugeot 905 'EVO 2 Supercopter'

The Peugeot 905 Evo 2 is a racing prototype developed by Peugeot Sport in 1992, intended to dominate the World Sportscar Championship (WSC) and succeed the already successful 905 in endurance racing. This new model, nicknamed 'Supercopter' due to its futuristic and aggressive look, was a radically modified and optimized version of the 905, using two spare chassis of the 905 (EV21 and EV22) designed to further improve aerodynamics, speed, and stability.
The car was built to take full advantage of the Group C 3.5L regulations, which were very similar to Formula 1 standards of the time. Peugeot aimed to showcase its technological superiority over competitors like Toyota and Jaguar. The Evo 2 featured an advanced design: a sharp F1-style nose, massive underbody venturi tunnels to generate ground effect, side skirts, a double front wing, and a high-mounted rear wing. Under its carbon fiber bodywork was a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V10 engine producing around 670 horsepower.
However, despite its impressive potential, the Peugeot 905 Evo 2 never entered a single race. During its first official appearance at Magny-Cours in 1992, it was deemed too unreliable for competition, and the drivers opted to race the well-tested 905 Evo 1 Bis instead. Shortly afterward, the FIA announced the end of the World Sportscar Championship, rendering the Evo 2 project obsolete. As a result, development was halted, and only two examples of the car were ever built. It marks the end of the Group C era and is now preserved as a museum piece.
