Information
During the 1982 Canadian Grand Prix, held on June 13th, Riccardo Paletti was only 2 days away from his 24th birthday. He was starting just his 2nd F1 race in Canada (San Marino 1982 was the first one) with his mother as an special guest in the stands (she was there to celebrate his birthday). On race start the green lights took more time to show, which caused Dironi's Ferrari to stall. When the green lights showed up he lifted his hands to advice the other drivers. Raul Boesel hitted the back left of the Ferrari which spinned his March into Eliseo Salazar and Jochen Mass' path. Paletti couldn't react in time, hitting the Ferrari at 180 kmh, crushing the nose of the car. The driver was unconscious in the car, and had a severe chest injury. The fuel tank of the car burnt up in flames and took 25 minutes to take him off the car, but Paletti was without pulse. He was flown in helicopter to Royal Victoria Hospita but passed away almost at the instant he arrived.
