Information
770 Offener Tourenwagen.
Initially unprotected, it was armored in 1942. At the end of World War 2, it was captured and then regularly displayed in France until its acquisition by Henri Malartre, a pioneer collector in France.
Modifications
The car was re-bodied or modified under the Aktion P program (from about 1942 onward), a plan to armor high-ranking official vehicles. This accounts for changes in bodywork and possibly the replacement body number.
The door hinges have been increased: instead of the usual two hinges per door, this car has three hinges per door. This is taken as evidence of thicker, heavier door construction to protect against ballistic threat, indicating a level 2 armour standard.
The glazing is remarkably thick—glass reportedly 40-45 mm in parts—for bullet resistance. Because of this thickness, internal defrosting was not feasible; the car has external defrosting nozzles at the base of the windshield.
The front bumper was replaced post-war: the current bumper is a single-blade type with rubber protection, differing from the original bumper form (bilame style) that more fully conformed to the pre-war specification. This replacement likely was done after the vehicle’s capture or during restoration to make it presentable.
Interior modifications include the elevated front passenger seat as well as a stool (both by about 12 cm) and a high handle (grip) on the upper frame of the windshield; features associated with parade vehicles allowing occupants visibility and certain ceremonial usage
