Information
One of the earliest examples of the revered 300 SL Gullwing.
Listed on the build sheet as an extremely rare Standwagen.
Originally bought directly off the stand at the 1954 Earls Court Motor Show by Rob Walker, but he would never take delivery. Later, the car was taken to the roads around Hatfield to be shaken down by a group of engineers, but due to damp and slippery conditions on the A1, it had lost control and spun backwards into a tree. The car was returned to Germany to be repaired. In May 1955, the car was registered for the road for the first time to serve as a demonstrator for Mercedes-Benz of Great Britain.
Retained by Mercedes-Benz of Great Britain until January 1956.
Subject of a five-year complete restoration between 2005 and 2010—presented in its factory colour specification of Silver Grey Metallic over Blue plaid.
