Information
Originally finished in white grey (158) over a blue (333) leather interior. This car was illegaly re-stamped with incorrect numbers by Mercedes specialist Kienle Automobiltechnik and later sold to a belgian collector in 2011. During maintainance in 2019, the dealer realised that the chassis number was stamped in the wrong place for a 300 SL of this model year. A court ordered Kienle Automobiltechnik to re-purchase tha car for €970,000 in 2020. Kienle Automobiltechnik then re-stamped the car once again so the (still incorrect) chassis number was in the correct place. They sold the car to a new owner for €1,215,000 in January 2022. This car was then confiscated by german authorities in July 2023 in connection with ongoing investigations on commercial fraud involving the sale of counterfeit classic cars by Kienle Automobiltechnik. An independent specialist confirmed that the numbers had been manipulated. After a thorough examination, the original chassis number could be identified and the car has been re-stamped to bear the correct numbers since.
Modifications
This car still bears the incorrect body and engine number, both serve to document the history of the car. The incorrect chassis number stamped by Kienle Automobiltechnik is still visible, but has been crossed out.
