Information
This chassis had two famous accidents.
During 2010 European Grand Prix, Red Bull's Mark Webber had a slow pit stop which dropped him back to P18. While Webber was overtaking Heikki Kovalainen, Kovalainen braked earlier than Webber expected. As a result, Webber crashed into the Lotus' rear end at over 300km/h. The Red Bull took off and summersaulted mid air, hit the ad board over the track, landed upside down, rolled over back and hit the barrier heavily. Webber was unhurt but the chassis was damaged, the brake paddle was broken. Kovaleinen's Lotus had both its front and rear wing gone, he drove the car back to pit lane, but still retired.
During 2010 Singapore Grand Prix, Kovalainen was hit by Sébastien Buemi and spun. This incident broke the Lotus' fuel valve, and the engine started to smoke. Despite the car had already caught fire, Kovalainen chose not to pit, and his car stopped on main straight near the pit wall. Kovalainen jumped out and got a fire extinguisher from Williams crew, with help of them Kovalainen put out the fire. This moment was praised by Lotus boss and was voted the Moment of the Year by Autosport magazine. However Kovalainen was still criticized for not pitting when the car was already on fire, which led to unnecessary danger.
