Information
In 1981 season, the twin chassis Lotus 88 was protested and announced illegal by FIA. Before British Grand Prix, the confrontation was so fierce that, FIA threatened Lotus, if they ran 88 at Silverstone, they would lost their Championship points and British GP would become a non-Championship race. In the end, Collin Chapman submitted, gave up his innovative 88, converted 2 87s to 88 spec as spare car, and later converted them back. This car was for Nigel Mansell at 1981 British GP.
Presumably to add its value, the car was converted again to 88.
