Information
After Jim Clark's death at Formula 2, Lotus recruited Mike Spence back to race in 1968 Indy 500. During the test, Spence set a lap record in the car #60 designated to him (56/1). Later he switched to Greg Weld's #30 car, which was this chassis and Weld didn't run it well. On his second lap in car #30, Spence misjudged the entrance of turn 1, hit the concrete wall heavily. The front right wheel hit his head and caused fatal injury. Later that night, Spence passed away at hospital.
The chassis was possibly salvaged and rebuilt into STP 1969 car. Other sources state that the remains of this chassis was used to built the 56B F1 car, but photo details denied the possibility.
