Information
This Lotus 19 was sold to up-and-coming Canadian driver Peter Ryan ahead of the 1961 season. He raced the car with considerable success, scoring outright victories against established drivers in similar equipment. For these results, he received the 'Drive to Europe' award, which allowed him to race single-seaters in Europe. Sadly, he was killed in a practice session for a Reims Formula Junior race in one of his first European outings.
Ryan's old Lotus was sold and raced for two more years, and in 1963, it was driven to the Canadian Racing Driving Championship by Dennis Coad. After over a decade in storage chassis 959 reemerged in the late 1970s and was then an active participant in historic events throughout North America for many years
