Information
In 1955 Lincoln released the Futura concept car, a design study of what passenger cars of the future will look like. It was originally finished in silver and toured various auto shows before being refinished in red and featured in the 1959 film It Started With a Kiss. It was then sold to George Barris, who bought it from Ford for $1. Barris, who was well known for constructing movie cars for use in Hollywood films and TV, planned on keeping the car in his private collection. But when he was contacted by the production crew of Batman and given roughly three weeks to build the Batmobile, he realized that he would need to use one of his own cars as a base on which to begin. It was decided that the one-off Futura was reimagined as the very first Batmobile.
