Information
During the 1990 French Grand Prix, held on July 8th. Leyton House introduced the 'B-Spec' for their CG901. Paul Ricard featured a smooth surface, plus the long Mistral Straight (1.1 km) and Leyton House opted for a risky strategy of doing the entire race without a single stop. When the leaders pitted allowed Capelli and Gugelmin to run 1-2 for a long part of the race, Prost overtook Gugelmin at lap 54 (of 80), which put them in 1-3 until Gugelmin was forced to retire due a mechanical failure. Capelli continued leading the race until he was overtook by Prost on lap 77 (of 80) as Capelli struggled with lapped cars. Capelli ended up in second place scoring Leyton House's sole podium finish and their closest chance ever to win a race.
