The Kieft GP1 was a stillborn Formula One project from Kieft Cars, conceived in the early 1950s when the company tried to step up from successful Formula 3 racing. Designed around the ambitious Coventry-Climax Godiva V8, the car was completed in 1953 54 but never raced because the engine programme was abandoned amid fears it would be uncompetitive. As a result, GP1 became a rare what might have been — a fully built Grand Prix car with no contemporary competition history. The project’s failure contributed to Kieft’s decline, and the car itself lay dormant for decades before finally making its debut in historic racing in 2002, nearly 50 years after it was created.
