Information
Built by Jaguar with the singular purpose of conquering Le Mans, the Jaguar XJ13 was the brainchild of legendary engineer Malcolm Sayer, renowned for his aerodynamic expertise. Conceived in 1966, this mid-engined prototype featured an all-new 5.0-litre V12 engine and an advanced aluminum monocoque chassis, representing Jaguar's most ambitious racing effort since their five Le Mans victories in the 1950s. Although the XJ13 never saw competitive action due to changing regulations and Jaguar's shifting priorities, it remains a symbol of what could have been. Only one example was ever built, which was damaged in a high-speed crash during a 1971 promotional filming but later meticulously rebuilt. Today, the car survives with its original engine and restored bodywork, standing as one of the most iconic and rarest prototypes in Jaguar’s storied history.
