LeMans 24 hours winner 1956, 1957.
Dakar Gran Prix 1956 - 5th place.
Extensive competition history across United Kingdom, United States & Australia.
Whilst racing at Goodwood Motor Circuit in 1956, the rear wheels locked at around 110mph which caused the car to swerve onto the grass after which it barrel rolled end over end. The driver (Tony Dennis) was thrown from the car and died before reaching hospital. The D-type came to rest upside down. Second owner, Duncan Hamilton sold the damaged remains to it's third custodian post accident.
Previously painted Maroon, Yellow, and British Racing Green.
Restored by Ian Cummins in 1981.
