Information
Originally Jenson Button's race car in 2008. By the end of 2008 season, Honda was preparing for the 2009 new regulations, especially the new hybrid system with KERS. This chassis was fitted with Honda's KERS system, based on the one fitted on the RA106 test car caller RA1082. Also, this RA108 was fitted with the front wing used in 2008 winter test with high nose cone and flat main wing, similar to 2009 spec and same as the wind tunnel model of RA109, Honda's planned 2009 car. The car was named RA1089 to conduct a full test for new regulations. However, before it can be really tested, Honda announced they would withdraw from F1 in 2009, so the project was abandoned.
Unlike many other Honda/BAR cars that were auctioned after Honda's withdraw, this chassis was retained at Brackley as a showcar. It was repainted in Brawn GP BGP001, Mercedes W01 and W02 liveries. Also the aerodynamic devices on sidepods, a sign of old regulation, were removed. In general it was similar to 2009-2013 regulation cars.
In 2014, the car was turned into a pit stop practice/challenge car. The car was repainted in white with a Petronas livery. To make the simulation real, the front wing and rear wing was changed to W05 spec, but the nose cone and front wing brackets remained same as RA1089. It was fitted with same wheels as W05 as well as a simple bargeboard. The car had a moped engine, which only propels the car into the pit grid.
Later Mercedes AMG F1 sold it too.
